I'm Adrian, a full-time, semi-nomad, minimalist photographer creating Black and White images.
"Trapped" in San Francisco
As someone who hates the heat, and being surrounded by it, I have no option but to stay in the city for the time being. Not a problem, though, as I often get amazing conditions for photography right on my doorstep.

How I find and collect inspiration for my photography

They say we "stand on the shoulders of giants". Those have come before us paved the way, and so many people are carving new paths in the world of the photography today. There's a lot of amazing work out there. This is how I find outstanding work, and how I collect it to inspire me in my own photography. We should create for ourselves, first and foremost. Ambient photography in the Great Sand Dunes of Colorado

Last stop in my spring road trip across the American West: the breathtaking Great Sand Dunes National Park, in Colorado. I only had a full day there, but so many things to capture and enjoy. From the howling coyotes that woke me up in the middle of the night under a full moon, to the relentless wind and menacing thunderstorms, this place is always a challenge. Less than ideal weather and some upcoming major changes in our lives led me to cut my road trip short and head back home, in the Midwest. However, the gods of photography had a very different idea in mind for me. A series of circumstances led me to Moab, Utah, where I found the best conditions (and images) of the whole trip so far. How Japanese Ink Painting influences my photography

A few years ago, I discovered an art form that transformed my approach to photography: sumi-e, or the art of Japanese Ink Painting. This ancient art taught me to capture the world in a simpler, yet more powerful way. By studying sumi-e paintings, I learned to harness the power of suggestion and simplification in my own work, inviting viewers to engage and connect on a deeper level. Books mentio...

Always, fantastic! fantastic! fantastic!, your videos, thanks Adrian
Great video!
There aren't many better places to be a fogtographer
Loved the video. What kind of filter are you using on your small camera?
I learned that I do not like to take pictures with a phone, which made me stop looking for photographs in the city. After I got a small point and shooting (Canon IXUS) that my parents weren’t using, I started making images almost every day, even in my not so interesting neighborhood. Good video as always!
If you hate the heat (as I do), you should come to visit northern Norway 🙂 Love your pictures, you inspire me a lot!
Maybe I should get into the burbs one day because when I visited San Francisco for the first time 10yrs ago I thought it was a complete sh*t hole and I vowed to never return and have seen many times over it's gotten much worse. Maybe one day I'll go back for the fog. Maybe.
awe inspiring work, you are capturing the soul of the city indeed, I can look at your images for hours
Can you please make a video about the war you edit your photos? Much appreciated.
Hi Adrian, you make a No Parking Sign look like a great Composition with the Fog. Loved the Church and the Horse Statue, All of your photos are beautiful. You are so right when you say there are images to be taken anywhere and the Mundane. Not that San Francisco is Mundane but you know what I mean, figure of speech. Many thanks Adrian 😊.
Great video, great images ❤
What a place to be trapped in! Thank You for another cool video.
Just stumbled onto your Channel today. Excellent content and subjects. I retired from Chicago to Japan and have rediscovered photography. Such a soothing way to spend retirement. Look forward to binge watching your work. You tell your story very well. Desde Espana? Next up … Japanese Ink prints. Keep it going. Cheers
Amazing photographs, they show a side of the city I wouldn't expect to see. Your channel is such a gold mine of inspiration. With the compact camera, do you find that the smaller sensor plus cropping to square format restricts you when it comes to printing the image at all?
You have an amazing eye to pick out random urban subjects. I also though the foghorn at 0:18 was the "Jaws" theme! Thank you for sharing. Stay cool!
Do you know fog filters ? just joking
love it!
Hey Adrian, I’m pretty sure you already know, but just in case you don’t, that white flowering bush at what looks like China Beach (0:30 seconds into the video) is poison hemlock. Be careful with it! I learned the hard way.
Спасибо тебе мужик за твое творчество, ты очень сильно вдохновляешь меня!!!
Спасибо большое за просмотр, я рада, что вам понравилось!
You’re nailing the beauty of a small compact camera
Thanks! They are the perfect camera for walking in a city. I wish they weren't going away... at least these tiny zoom pocket cameras.
Very nice. Do you miss your rx100 vii ? 6:47 insane shot and edit.
Thanks! I miss it A LOT here in the city. I was actually looking at one a few weeks ago, but it's crazy they are more expensive now than it first came out. Not sure if Sony is making it anymore or it has been discontinued, but I'd buy a new improved one in a heart beat!
@@aows We've just seen them available with a small cashback - but still with a waiting time. And still expensive. You've already made a video about your image editing process. Has it changed a lot over time or has it only been slightly refined? For example, how much happens when you take the photo. I myself photographed quite flat for a long time and then later increased the contrast a lot in post-production, preferably in Capture One - the algorithm for Sony Raws seemed to me to be somehow more homogeneous compared to Adobe Lightroom. In the meantime, the difference no longer seems so great. Over time, I now shoot with high contrast and sometimes the jpg, which I may edit slightly, is enough for me. Of course, it depends on the goal. For a publication I still edit it, usually over days, because my own mood plays a big part in the result :) looking forward to more city walks from you. I like the transition from nature to urban and vice versa.
@@aows Oh, and I would also buy a new version of the rx100 in a heartbeat. 📸
I lived in Portland Oregon up until 2000, it was a wonderful place to live and photograph back then. I'm in Eastern Oregon now and it's going to be 90F and sunny until October... Oh well. At least it's safe to live here. And though not preferred by me, there are ways to make good photographs when it's bright and sunny out.
Where in Eastern oregon? Beautiful place, but I can imagine it gets pretty hot in the summer. Sunrise and sunset are always a good bet, but they happen so early / late these days!
@@aows NE, LaGrande. Yes sunrise is around 4AM and sunset is about 10PM, lol. I live 10 miles from the Eagle Cap wilderness but it is a remote place. You need to backpack in to get anywhere interesting and all the trails are difficult+ rating. I did just that when I was 20 years younger, but that's not happening now for sure. I just need to stop taking October through April for granted and stop whining about the cold too!!
Really beautiful, creative images, Adrian. I love your quiet, meditative approach so easy to watch and listen to. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much, Heather!
Awesome
Thanks!
I like your photography from the city. It's interesting to see what catches your eye. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! It's a pretty cool city, especially because of the weather, but always so many things going on.
I lived in San Francisco for many years, and people don't understand how cold summers can be. I know the weather forecast will say it's going to be in the 60s, but when the wind kicks up and the fog blows in, you are going to want a jacket. You can often spot visitors who aren't familiar with the weather -- they are walking across the Golden Gate Bridge in shorts and a souvenir fleece from somewhere in Fisherman's Wharf.
I had my first experience a few years ago when I photographed the golden gate bridge on a foggy night in late June. I got so cold I still remember the chills today, and I was wearing a coat! I am usually one of the last ones to get cold among family and friends, but here in the city I find myself wearing a winter hat quite often haha. You are right, when it gets windy (and that's almost every day) it gets to your bones with the humidity. I guess we'll be saving quite a bit of money on AC.
@@aows It's really hard to explain to people how it feels. I miss it, and we may move back someday. P.S. If you are in the Richmond District, check out Pizzetta, which is on 23rd Ave. at California. Very small, but great pizzas.
@@danieli.9252 thank you, I will check it out! We are indeed in the Richmond.
Great video, beatiful photos!
Thank you so much!
Just watched your video which I really enjoyed. I've walked multiple Caminos but never in winter. Reminded me very much of my native Scotland. Ultreia et Suseia.
Another interesting and helpful video from you. Thank you very much.
Very nice, concise presentation. I mostly know these precepts but need prompting all the time, and this was one of the best prompts. I also very much enjoy your no-music walks; I've been recognizing Presidio Park in San Francisco. I guess if you want fog, you're in the right place. Thanks!
Thanks!
Wonderful images.. but It's the photographer the creator and not the camera.

Fiber base paper please. RC paper is only for test, but not for serious printers. Your images are so beautiful you have to print on fiber base paper.

Welcome Aboard!
Sognefjorden will be destroyed by at least three wind power plants in the coming years. We go there next week to start photographing it down. Next summer we go to France, then we settle by Sognefjorden to photograph it all down. When done, we settle in France.
I have a similar list that is also arranged by major traits, for exemple I'd call it French photographer or Canadian, maybe their work is in close relationship to their country because they were documenting it like HCB and others. It could also be called WOMEN PHOTOGRAPHERS because their work was heavily influenced by their femininity or some kind of women fight. A section that I like is PHOTOGRAPHERS QUOTES AND PHILOSOPHY. Self explanatory, it's always inspiring to read their ideas. Another important section I have is of course the books section where I write down every book I want to buy either if I see it online or in a shop.
Did the police come because of a possible copyright infringement because you were taking screenshots? 😂
Love this!
What useful advice. It persuaded me to create a web site and perhaps a blog. Thank you.
Oh wow, I can't believe I find myself in one of your videos as an inspiration 😮❤. And again we have something in common - I also keep work that inspires me in my apple notes app and some in Pinterest - including many of your photos 😊. The notes app is amazing for all these things. As you said it is very easy to find everything either with folders, search or via tags and I also include links to the artist's websites or Social Media. I like your idea of analyzing images by writing and sketching on them on the tablet.
Really useful ideas. Thank you.
What an excellent idea!! Took screen shots of the list you displayed😊 for my reference. Can you share the list of the photographers you have maintained?
Great suggestions; thanks for making this video!
first photographer in my list of inspiring work is ... @aows :-)
excellent inspiration
Great idea. I use Notes on an iPad, but have never used it on the desktop computer. I can’t seem to find a way to format it on the iPad they way you are showing it, with an index column on the left and the actual information in a separate larger column on the right. I will try to see if the Notes app on the desktop computer is different, because I love your general idea. I try to keep different photographers work and how they go about achieving their results, in my head, but it’s limiting, doing it that way.
found something i like: burnt trees
Your photography, Adrian, is inspiring. I find inspiration on RUclips and Instagram. I haven't purchased any photography books lately but I do check them out of the library regularly. I have two library books here now.
